Year 4 Multiplication Checking Exercise

What is the multiplication tables check?

It is an on-screen check consisting of 25 times table questions for pupils in Year 4. Your child will be able to answer 3 practice questions before taking the actual check. They will then have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.

What is the purpose of the multiplication tables check?

The purpose of the check is to determine whether your child can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will also help your child’s school to identify if your child may need additional support.

Will I receive feedback on my child’s check?

Yes. Your child’s teacher will share your child’s score with you, as they would with all national curriculum assessments. There is no pass mark for the check.

Please find below a presentation that was shared with Year 4 parents on 31st January 2023 that gives more information about the check. A workshop for parents of children in Year 4 in 2023/24 is planned for 30th January 2024 and the presentation below will be updated once that workshop has taken place.

The Multiplication Checking Exercise for the current Year 4 children (2023/2024) will take place between Monday 3rd of June and Thursday 13th June.
