School Games Competition Intent
At Warren Junior School we aim to deliver both a curriculum and extra-curricular offer which is accessible to all and will help our children to live healthy and active lifestyles. Furthermore, we aim to deliver clubs which focus on the School Games SMILES principle (safe, maximum participation, inclusive, learning, enjoyment, and success) to enable all children to have positive experiences with physical activity and exercise. Ultimately, creating a lifelong positive relationship with exercise as they journey through their primary education into adulthood. We aim to achieve this by actively encouraging all children to partake in Physical Education as well as through a wide range of extra-curricular clubs that are on offer without any fee. As part of this we also actively encourage children that partake in physical exercise to do so in a variety of different roles including participating, officiating, and leading.
We are proud members of the Barking and Dagenham School Sports Partnership (BDSSP) which provides a wide range of competitions for the children at Warren Junior School to participate in. Through these competitions and representing the school the children get to learn and maximise social development as well as develop their confidence in different environments and situations. As members of the BDSSP we actively look to participate in as many inter school competitions as possible. We also provide different opportunities for the children to partake in intra school competitions including sports day in the summer term. Furthermore, we also enter a wide range of competitions on offer from Panathlon Challenge, a charity which helps children with additional needs and disabilities to partake in competitive sport. Ultimately, this enables all children to achieve to the best of their ability and work to their personal best level.
We also have a focus on the process rather than the outcome and continue to support all children who partake in extracurricular clubs as well as children who go on to represent our school teams. As part of this the children have a number of different opportunities to participate in sport at different venues. For example, the indoor cricket team have had an opportunity to take part in two tournaments at Lords Cricket Ground.
Finally, we consider and have a clear focus during transition points. These include; hosting EYFS and key stage 1 sports days at Warren Junior School; support children if they need specific PE transition interventions when transferring from key stage two to three and participating in the Panathlon programme.
On behalf of the staff, pupils and governors of Furze Infants and Warren Junior School I would like to welcome you to our federation. We are two schools working together under one Governing Body for the benefit of our pupils and the success of the community we live in.
We believe our schools gain from working collaboratively, more importantly, we strive to provide a seamless transition for our pupils between the two schools.
